Has anybody installed one of these on a 2.4? I got one for cheap from a friend, and all I can find is instructions for the electrical ones. Do I need a t fitting? thanks in advance for any help.

I would think so, stick in somewhere in the oil supply line to the top end probably?

I know it needs to go in the sending unit's place on the intake camshaft housing, but I am not sure if it needs to be on a t fitting or directly in there. I know on the 3400 v6 that wire doesn't have to be plugged back in but wasn't sure about the 2.4's

i know on the 2.3 quad 4s, you have to have a working oil pressure sending unit, or the ECM will not fire the injectors for safety reasons. the sending unit on the 2.3 screws into the drivers side fo the echaust cam housing. if you were to take this sending unit out, install a T, then you now have tapped into the oil pressure on the head. you can put your mechanical gauge onto the side of the T, and then put your stock sending unit onto the other end of the T. everything should work fine then. the 2.4 should be very similar, just find that stock oil pressure sending unit.

the 2.4 is the same, you can see it poking out between the cams just under the wire harness for the idi cover

The 2.4 uses a digital oil pressure sending unit which turns ON at low oil pressure. You don't have to worry about the oil light coming on or the ECM freaking out by taking out the oil sending unit.
Install is remarkably easy for the 2.4. 1/4 npt fitting where the sending unit screws into the intake cam tower (underneath the IDI cover, on the driver side of the engine), run the line through the firewall to the guage.

be aware that its not a good idea to mount mechanical oil pressure or fuel pressure gauges inside the cockpit of your car. incase of a failure, you wouldnt want to have high pressure oil or fuel to be spraying inside your car if something breaks.
for instance, my cheap fuel pressure gauge is mounted on the cowl where the wipers used to be, just in front of the windshield.

At the same time if you do mount a mech oil pressure gauge inside your cockpit and you drag race, NHRA rulebook (IHRA not sure) doesn't allow the use of that plastic line, you'll have to switch to copper.

Sorry to bring this back from the dead but I searched and this is what I came up with, can anybody tell me how to hook up a non-mechanical oil pressure gauge in a 98 z24?

same way, you're just running wires isntead of the nylon tubing. you may need to get a fitting because i don't think most electrical senders will thread into where the stock sender goes.

A pic of the location on a 2.3 for the record. Brass fitting, clear plastic line, etc.
