My current exhaust is getting rusted....I plan to upgrade to a 2.5" piping but am unsure on what muffler to get. I "DONT" want a fart can. I like the stock exhaust tips so what muffler do ya'll suggest? I love how the car sounds now so I dont want to hear muffler....currently I hear the engine when I redline...so i dont want that raspy sound.
any performance muffler is going to get raspy. some are morse than others, but they will all do it if they are free flowing. that being said, any super turbo muffler wont sounds THAT bad and arent much louder than stock. probably the best sounding muffler ive heard is a borla ss muffler but they are fucking LOUD. a magnaflow would be right behind it in terms of sound.
93 Olds Achieva SC(X) - no interior, 6 point roll cage, sheet metal dash, tons of other stuff, just ask. SOLD
92 GA GT Quad4 - 11:1 forged Ross pistons, Eagle rods, 226/.410 cams, W41 chip, titanium retainers, Lightweight Flywheel, Spec stage III clutch.
90 Calais I-Series - W41 Chip, 2.5" exhaust - GONE
90 Beretta GTZ - 2.5" Exhaust - timing chain broke at 144,000 miles - RIP
It also had W41 Cams at this time but stock exhaust, only changes was a glasspack and the dynomax. Sounded pretty nice, especially in low rpms. And it wasnt ricey, maybe a bit in high rpms but not that much as you guys think.
Oh and Im still waiting to hear better options on an exhaust set up.
DOHC_tuner, along with the other comments recommending running a (high-flow) cat, that's what I did -- I am running a high-flow cat mainly for the sound attenuation properties. (sure, I support improved emissions if easy/possible, too, but mainly I wanted the sound attenuation) Then I run that into a Borla 2.5" straight-through muffler. All my pipe is 2.5" mandrel bent.
It sounds "louder", but is not obnoxiously loud. I have gotten comments from people who say it is the best sounding 4-cylinder (NA) that they have ever heard!
One of these days maybe I can get some good sound clips recorded!.....
